A Cycling Holiday

Well it was a beautiful autuums day, so we decided to go for a ride and see what we could see.

So first of all here are our riders for the day.

Bianca and Natasha

Cassandra and Passenger Courtney

Cass rode her Mum's bike, but it had a real, real flat tyre so we pumped that up before we set out for our first destination, a playground near Cass's school. The playground was a mess with empty tins and cardboard boxes, but they cleaned that up real smartly and played on the swings and slides.

Tash and Slide

Then we rode onto another playground where there were lots of new playthings and lots more people. More slipping and sliding.

Bianca and Courtney

So after another break, we rode off again into the university and down the pretty paths to Sullivans Creek where we had our first food break, white bread and butter, some having vegemite.

Tash and Bianca at Sullivans Creek

After a short rest, we rode onto the lake Burley griffen path and headed off to the National Museum of Australia where more food was consumed and a visit was made to the rotating theatre. Cassandra upped her age for that!

Then it was off again around to the ferry terminal where we were greeted by swans. They are everywhere.

Then onto the bikes again and over Commonwealth bridge and round the path through Parliment House gardens to the House itself. Kids have a fascination for water, always wanting to get into it, but with out a towel or spare sets of clothes, had to say NO!

Courtney Tash Me Cass - taken by Bianca

We rode through the carpark of PH and then down to the High Court where there was more water.

The High Court Fountain

Then the final leg home, over Kings Avenue bridge, down past the Carillion and into Civic. here Bianca complained of headaches so we got her to drink lots of water which got her out of the dehydrated stae and off we went to the Dickson McDonalds.

Courtney and Tash - Guess where

Anzac Day

Anzac day is commemorated 25th April each year in Australia. Australian and New Zealand troops landed on Gallipoli in 1915 on that day and stayed there for seven odd months and lost nearly 9000 and wounded another 19000. Here's a primer on that disaster!

So for the week leading up to Anzac Day, we sell badges and the money goes to War Veteran Homes and similiar functions in support of all returned ex servicemen (and women).

Today two interesting people bought badges, one was an old Croat who bought his badge and then delivered a history lesson on the evils of Churchill and what he did. It's all true he says but there will be no proof till 2045 when the archives are released. I have often stood behind people in the post office. They buys a 50 cent stamp and then launch into a conversation that seems endless. People buying conversation time?

The next was a 10 year kid (I guess) whose Mum didn't have enough money. In fact she had $1.40, a one dollar coin and two 20c coins. "You can have a badge for that I say", so the kid takes the money, he drops the dollar coin into box and takes off like a rocket with the two 20c coins to the toy fire engine where he proceeds to feed the slot machine to get a ride in this thing. His mother went ape. Guess kids know at a pretty early age what they can do with coins, and this kid knew exactly where his priorities lay.

Autuum

Each year the leaves of the trees as autuum progresses is a wonderful sight. This one on my daily commute always catches my eye.

An Interesting Ride

Did a 5 Hr 30 min and 80 Km trip (bit slow :-) ). You can read the details here. A pleasant social ride with five people, two punctutes and one crash, fortunately no damage to anything but the rider's ego.
