May's shot!

Where do the days go?

Anyway the news of the day is that our first real frost hit, so that's the end of the pumpkins, capsicums and anything else that doesn't like frost.

Ubuntu-7.04

Downloaded this by bittorrent a few weeks ago, 700 MBytes. I have left my machine on and so far uploaded close to 3 Gbytes. Marvellous program. Three weeks ago, there were up to 50 people pulling out of my computer, now it has dropped to 20 so looks like everyone is getting it one way or the other.

Installed it with the intention of switching back to my Suse-10.2, but once installed, I haven't been back. Just transferred all my mail from the Suse partition and a few other things as well and don't think I will ever go back.

Learnt a few things about backups, so I am going to do it right this time :-)
basically all I save is my mail and address books. There are a few config files, but if the worst came to the worst nothing really lost except some convenience.

Everything just works, great!

A Great Sunday (and Ride)

Hall Markets

The Hall markets are in aid of Hartley House who provide respite and care services for handicapped children. They are run the first Sunday of every month, and this Sunday was such a beautiful autumns day that I took the chance for a country ride via the markets.

Bit of a time warp for me, had been there some years ago, but nothing had changed. All the stall holders were in the same positions as they were then. The couple of new stalls were on the perimeter of the grounds.

Anyway, rode on in the glorious weather to see my friend up the Nanima Rd and returned with a gentle tail wind. All in all a beaut days riding.

The image above was stitched from 3 shots made with an A400 Canon in stitch mode. I did two stitches, one with the software that came with the camera, took about 5 seconds, and next with a plug in to the Gimp called Tom Metcalf's stitcher. It took 5 hours! Maybe finger trouble on my part.

Lost a friend!

After 15 years of use, our humble potato peeler gave up the ghost. It just wore out, the plastic housing for the peeler blade started to allow the blade to jump out peeling hard stuff like pumpkin, and getting the blade back in flexed it to the extent that it too became distorted, so the inevitable happened.

Cheap stuff, nuthin lasts these days :-)
