Bicycle Tyres and Wear

From Bicycle Defects

The tyre on the left has just hit the 7000Km mark. I purchased the tyre on the right a couple of months ago but a friend suggested I not change it till you "could see the canvas".

What is more likely to happen is that I will start getting punctures, but so far, fingers crossed.

Both tyres are Schwalbe Marathons, good value for money.

Bike Valve Rubbers

When I was a kid, our bike valves consisted of a hollow tube that extended from the outside(where a pump would be attached) to the inside of the tube.

A rubber tube like in the above image slid over this tube, so that when you pumped air, it would go into the tube, and when the pressure was off, the tube would be sealed.

I haven't seen that sort of valve for probably 40 years, but all the repair kits out of China have two pieces of valve rubber as shown.

Guess the original repair kit that was copied by the Chinese had two rubber valves, and so every repair kit since has had them.

Do We Really Need This

Do we really need our jugs to radiate a steely cold blue light when Off, and a fiery red when On

First world problem!

Clean Your Mower Air Filter!

When your engine seems to be running slow, and a bit powerless, maybe it isn't getting enough air.

These sponges cost about $8 a pop, which seems a bit of a rip off. I have soaked it in petrol and after cleaning all the crud off, will re-oil it back to "new" status I hope
