Ubuntu-8.04

Haven't done much this month, but today, installed Ubuntu-8.04. The first attempt was to use two partitions (of 13) on the second hard drive. It went right to the end and then bombed out trying to grub-install hd0.

Second attempt, just put the whole thing on one partition on hda (named sda in this version of Ubuntu) and it went in Ok. So why the first one stuffed up I will never know, though I suspect that it, that's the installer, gets confused if there are too many file systems and partitions.

Got 300 MBytes of downloads, though I think some of them will come off the CD. Gotta wait till midnight when the downloads don't count. See if they go in ok.

Otherwise it looks pretty good, Firefox 3 and Gimp-2.4.5, so it is really up to date.

Comment 24 hours later:

1. Something ain't just right, I am not sure if I want to persist with it, stick with my 7.04 till 8.10 comes out.

2. Added a couple of entries to the /etc/fstab file to bring a few partitions on line at boot up, no luck and I see the there are a few others in the same boat on the Ubuntu Forums.

3. Other unrecoverable errors related to Ktorrent and Konversation, never really got the back on line once they hic-cupped, despite numerous attempts to cleanse the system.

Maybe on another wet day will try again, maybe Kubuntu if I can get my hands on a CD.
