Wonder if the Museum of Australian Democracy will become known as the MAD House! It was the Australian Parliament House from 1927 to 1988 when it was abandoned in favour of big new shiny building a bit further up the hill.
For 20 odd years it was a sort of museum, it also had a portrait gallery, but all this has now come to finality with the opening today of the Museum of Australian Democracy.
It was opened by a recent Prime Minister, Bob Hawke. In the photo above, he doesn't look to bad for an 80 yo. The Wikipedia article has a earlier photo of him. The younger chap beside him is senator Faulkner.
Not much has changed with the building, essentially the same as it was in days gone by, and the Aboriginal tent Embassy still lies on the grounds opposite.
The Portrait gallery has moved down to the Lake and is in my mind an unique gallery well worth the visit.
A mornings ride with a difference! I had two free egg and bacon hamburgers, yikes! But they did smell nice to this hungry cyclist. Oh, yes, the weather was magic, a beautiful autumns day with nil wind.
