1.7.06

The first of July

No particular signifigance to the date, though it is a reminder that the year is half done and time is slipping by all to quickly and tax will have be started for the 53rd time.

Returned from Queensland mid Jun, totally exhausted and have gone through several stages of recovery. Today did my first "big ride" to Queanbeyan where I indulged in a gigantic breakfast. The Central Cafe there is famous for it generous sized meals. I feel good for having done it!

During the getting better stage, installed Xubuntu 6.06. It uses Xfce and it is cool but has used a bit more space than I bargained for after installing 600 megs(->2 gigs?) of compressed downloads.. This is where it stands;
Filesystem   1K-blocks      Used         Available   Use%   Mounted on
/dev/hdb5       5044156    3919988     867936    82%         /

Maybe I won't need to install much more. Have absolutely no idea why anyone would want to use (and pay for) Windows (<-Registered Trade Mark symbol there please). Will be getting a Kubuntu DVD I hope and will install that on another, larger partition. There are some advantages to using the KDE base but they are all pretty cosmetic.

The lap top I used in Queensland is now mine, after an exchange of $100 in folding money. I can now sit in front of the TV and play computers...Yikes.

The TDF starts tonight on SBS, it's inspirational, better than reading magazines and dreaming. Still want to do a big ride, Brisbane to Sydney maybe, but always can find an excuse for not doing it. Dream on I guess.
